Last Chance for Saturday's Extremely Necessary One-Day Retreat!
Plus two spots left in Spring Groups
Good morning, friends,
My writing buddies tell me that Mercury is in retrograde, which means it's a great time for revisions. When I'm doing heavy-duty revising, I like to take a full day to tackle the job. Of course, I can almost never find a full day. There are always so many demands on our time. But what if I could clear away, I don't know, say this Saturday, March 29 and just declare it Sacred for Writing?
Oh wait, I did! And you can join me in my beautiful studio, or from far away via Zoom, and together we will bolster each each other, cheer each other on during our periodic breaks, and get a jumpstart on all of our writing goals for the spring. Bring a bag lunch, or order a sandwich from Woodstar and pick it up midday. (Due to broken wrist, I can’t cook, but maybe Tom will be persuaded to make crack brownies…)
I will be providing strong coffee and/or decaf, teas of all kinds, seltzer water, chocolate, and healthy snacks. At the end of the day, we will share some of what we've been working on. Prompts will be provided, but as usual, they are optional.
When I'm working on new material, or new scenes in a pre-existing project, I like the 10-week weekly workshop format. If you’re looking for a group, you are in luck! I have just two openings left in my Spring workshops, which begin this week and next week: a Wednesday evening spot (meets 7 to 9 PM EDT, starting this Wednesday, March 26) and a Thursday afternoon spot (meets 12:30 to 2:30 EDT starting next Thursday, April 3). Both groups are accessible either in person or via Zoom.
Peace out and carry on,
Nerissa
Upcoming Opportunities
I only have only two open spots for Writing It Up in the Garden’s Spring Season of weekly workshops: one in the Wednesday evening group (7-9) and one in the Thursday Fiction 12:30-2:30 group. Wednesday’s 10-week trimester begins this week (March 26) and runs until the first week of June. Thursday’s group begins next Thursday April 3 and runs to June 12.
Generative groups begin with a prompt, and then we write for an hour. The second hour, we take turns sharing what we’ve just written. Responses are focused on the merits of the new work we’ve just heard. No negative or prescriptive critique will be given. All generative workshops are either on Zoom or in Little Blue with a hybrid option. All are every-genre inclusive and are limited to five writers plus the instructor.
Wait, one more thing about Daylong retreat…
This retreat is half price for all ANNUAL PAID subscribers to this newsletter! If you aren’t currently a paid subscriber, what are you waiting for?
With your subscription, you get the Community Writes Tuesday evening group–– a writing group with a feedback-free open mic. We begin with a prompt at 6pm, then we write for an hour. At 7pm, there will be a half-hour-long open mic, with up to six readers reading for 5 minutes apiece. Friendly feedback in the chat. (Free to any member of Morning Seeding & Tending––part of the $20 a month the program costs.)
The retreat is also half-price for and members of Morning Seeding & Tending.
(MS&T also gets you Community Writes Tuesdays.) Subscribe via Ko-Fi to become a regular member, or try it for a month via my website. We are a jolly yet non-naggy accountability group of dedicated writers who show up, set intentions in the chat, listen to a prompt (or not) and then get the writing quotient for the day done. “Done” being, at times, better than “brilliant and immortal.”
